The term "Producer" has lost some of its value in the film and media industry because it is often given out as an incentive for providing financing or connections in creative projects. However, many individuals work as producers at every stage of a creative project's development. They ensure that essential elements such as financing, contracts, staffing, payroll, production, distribution, and more are successfully acquired and implemented.
Producers are the driving force and employers in the film and media industry. Their business skills are based on project management and can be transferred to both the commercial and creative sides of entertainment. Based on localized market research since 2017 and development since our inception in 2022, the Albuquerque Film and Media Incubator has refined the most comprehensive, affordable, and accessible training program for those interested in pursuing a career as a producer.
AFMI's career development for producers offers participants a unique opportunity to hone the skills required to excel as a producer in both the commercial and narrative realms of the film and media industry. Producers play a crucial role in shepherding a project from its inception through to successful distribution. It is a career path that is both accessible and demanding, requiring a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of the industry and core business principles.
Building on our experiences and feedback, we have tailored our career development efforts toward nurturing the next generation of producers. Our program is designed to be inclusive and practical, offering affordable, online Learn & Work Sessions that focus on the entire lifecycle of a project - from development to distribution. Participants can bring their projects to life throughout the program cycle or use our sample projects and focus on the skills. Whether you're ready to produce projects or want to learn how to build a slate of projects as a producer, this program can be customized for you!
By equipping aspiring producers with these essential skills and knowledge, we aim to empower them to drive innovation, create opportunities, and shape the future of the film and media industry in New Mexico. The program uses AFMI's five fundamentals of business:
